Projects Supported by the MFVA

Our mission statement has 3 key points that we aim to support regularly: Education to the public about vision and eye health, scholarships, and grants to support either research or projects that help the underserved.

  • $13,600 to SVOSH for 2022 trips

  • $6,500 for Opening Eyes Special Olympics.

  • $15,000 to SVOSH for 2020/2021 trips

  • $12,500 to the Association for the Blind & Visually Impaired (ABVI) to stock two mobile eye clinics

  • $5,000 to Michigan Eye and Contact Lens to provide medically necessary specialty contact lenses for low income patients

  • $4,995 to MCO Occupational Vision (Drs. Swan and Buckingham) for a Cone Contrast Test

  • $2,800 to the Eye Clinic at St. Luke’s New Life Center for Optomap set-up.

  • $2,800 to Carefree Medical Eye Clinic for Optomap set-up.

  • $1,295 to Carefree Medical Eye Clinic for a BIO.

  • $7,490.47 to Health Unit on Davison Avenue (HUDA Clinic) for a phoropter, autorefractor, iCare tonometer, trial lens set and laptop for EMR.

  • $12,500 for the endowed MFVA Scholarship for 1st year MCO students - now a $50,000 endowment!

  • $18,750 to SVOSH

  • $7,500 to Opening Eyes Special Olympics.

  • $4,225 to the Bureau of Services for Blind Persons for a promotional video.

  • $1,000 to MCO’s Vision Research Institute for research.

  • $15,000 to the MOA for Think About Your Eyes.

The MFVA board would like to thank you for your applications for grants and scholarships and providing us with fulfilling the mission of the MFVA. We act to be good stewards of the endowment entrusted to us to promote vision care and optometric services. We also thank all who’ve been an integral part in helping the MFVA to get to where it is today.
